You probably have a few questions, right? Don’t worry, we’ve got that covered. Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions we get asked – on everything from our application process to our programmes themselves.

You’ll also find some useful tips here to help your application to shine.

  • Application process

    What is the application process at Santander?

    If I’m successful, do you provide feedback?

    We get a lot of applications, so it’s not always possible to give feedback at every stage. However, we do aim to give it to everyone who reaches the interview or assessment centre stages.

    Is it possible to apply for more than one scheme at a time?

    In certain cases, yes. Please contact our recruitment team to check if it is possible before making an application.

    If my application is unsuccessful, when can I next apply?

    For apprenticeships, you can apply whenever you like. For everything else, you’ll normally need to wait a minimum of six months before re-applying for the same scheme. This is to allow you to build up your skills and experiences.

    You can apply for a different role within Santander at any time.

  • Assessment centre

    Why have I been invited to the Assessment centre?

    It gives us the opportunity to see you in action and assess your abilities. Likewise, it gives you the chance to see what we’re like too – whether Santander is the right fit for you.

    Will my travel be paid for?

    We will reimburse your travel expenses up to the first £100. Please keep all of your original receipts so you can claim your money back.

    What can I expect to happen on the day?

    This will depend on what scheme you applied for. When we invite you to the assessment centre, we’ll send you detailed information about what to expect on your day. Please take the time to read through this, so you can prepare and feel confident on the day.

    - there is some time where you can talk to us, use this time so you can know that Santander is the right place for your career

    - you want to make a good first impression

    Worry

    - getting to this stage you will have passed online tests and a video interview, so be confident in your ability.

    Give Up

    - if you feel that you haven’t done well on an exercise, remember there are other assessments in the day to show the real you

    Interrupt others

    - it is important for everyone to be engaged. And as much as we want everyone to have an opinion, it is important to portray this in the right way

    Cross your arms

    - think about your body language on the day. It is amazing what you can say without speaking!

    What do I need to qualify for a scheme?

    Each scheme has its own requirements. Please check what these are in the description of the specific programme you’re interested in.

    What can I expect from a Santander apprenticeship?

    Apprenticeships enable you to combine practical training with a qualification. You’ll be employed in a job, so will earn a wage. You’ll also receive benefits and will have a structured development programme with support from experienced colleagues.

    We have a range of apprenticeship schemes from level two right through to degree level, ranging in length from 12 months through to over four years.

    What level apprenticeship will I be on?

    We offer apprenticeships at various levels from level two through to degree level. Please refer to the job description of the specific apprenticeship you’re interested in.

    Will I get a job at the end of the scheme?

    That’s certainly the intention. Naturally, this will depend on you passing your scheme and performing well. Where that precise role will be will depend on business needs and where we have opportunities at the time.

    If I don’t achieve the grades needed, will my offer still be valid?

    Unfortunately not. If that happens to you, we invite you to go to our website and explore different career paths within Santander.

    Do you pay relocation expenses?

    Relocation allowances are available in certain cases. We will discuss this with you in more detail at the point of the offer, or you can contact one of our resourcing team about this matter.

    Do I need to open a bank account with Santander?

    If you’re successful in your application, yes. This will be the account we’ll pay your salary into. We’ll help you set up this account when you join.

    What benefits does Santander offer?

    The simple answer is lots! But they will vary depending on what route you take. For specific benefit details on each scheme, check out the full summary within each programme detail page.

    I need permission to work in the UK – can Santander sponsor me?

    We welcome applications from everyone. However, we do have to comply with the Home Office immigration standards. In some circumstances, we will need to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information, please visit the UK Border Agency website.
