Santander Select

Santander Select is all about providing personalised services and special offers that are simple, personal and fair to our most high-value customers. We have Select specialists in over 300 of our branches as well as in our contact centres.

All our Santander Select customers hold current accounts, and also meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • A minimum of £75,000 in Santander investments, savings or bank accounts
  • £5,000 per month to pay into their account
  • A mortgage with Santander
Relationship Manager

Select customers benefit from a dedicated Relationship Manager acting as the only point of contact for around 600 customers, taking time to fully understand their complex financial needs and build a personal, trusted relationship helping to make their lives easier. It's all about going above and beyond to provide the best service available on the market.

Select Relationship Managers at Santander have;

  • The ability to build strong working relationships both with their portfolio of customers and other Relationships Managers across our branch network to ensure the best solution for the customer
  • Strong analytical skills, and the ability to handle complex information from a range of sources

Our Financial Planning Managers operate pro-actively with the branch network and with other key internal introducers.  Their focus is on providing protection and investment advice of the highest standard to meet our customers’ needs.

Our Financial Planning Managers are keen networkers within their branches and also look for ways to identify customers who may benefit from being offered protection and investment advice from outside the branch environment too. They ensure that Santander delivers on our customer promises and provides outstanding advice. Financial Planning Manager at Santander have:

  • Proven skills and experience as a regulated adviser
  • Proven diagnostic, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • A good understanding of the regulatory environment associated with banking and investment activities in order to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • The ability to work flexibly to meet customer needs outside of normal working patterns as required

A Regional Manager Financial Planning’s main focus is to embed the priorities, values, attitudes and plans that will transform their team and instil a sense of fellow-ship, personal involvement, commitment and engagement with the strategic vision of Financial Planning and the wider group.

They proactively and personally take full responsibility for managing all the Advisers in their Region regarding advice, day to day operation, service and risk in a way that delivers efficient business operations and contributes positively to the commercial goals of Santander.

Our Regional Managers Financial Planning have excellent motivational and communication skills and a high level of credibility across the region and within Financial Planning as a whole.

I joined the business in February 2016 the beginning of my 27th year working in the world of personal financial advice. Why? Quite simply I believe we have a truly unique opportunity to leapfrog our competitors and become the retail private bank of choice in the UK. Coming in to lead a business in its formative stage and be a part of developing its people, its proposition and being able to provide excellent service to clients both face to face and through our market leading digital strategy was a challenge I could not turn down. As someone who is prepared to “roll up the sleeves” to drive results and great customer outcomes the thought of being able to create a team of the right people to put the right products in front of the right customers in the right way is very exciting. Divisional Managers at Santander are responsible for:

  • The implement of our commercial framework and governance for the Santander Private business within assigned Division.
  • Leading the implementation of the growth plan to support directly the Santander Private business (e.g. location premises, system, product and proposition requirements).
  • Achievement of key business objectives.
  • Building the Santander Private franchise within Santander UK in conjunction with Head of Santander Private and together with other internal / external stakeholders. .
  • Directly manage a portfolio of UHNW customers and provide full investment advice services.

Having started my banking career over 30 years ago, it is fair to say that the industry has seen quite a few changes during that time.

I joined Santander in January 2009 to help build a new Corporate & Commercial Banking business following the acquisition of Alliance & Leicester and with a clear focus upon customers and their needs, supported by a committed and creative team we have been able to build a high quality business.

Having joined Wealth Management in 2013, I am delighted to be part of another growth story working alongside a high quality team to really understand customers needs, develop compelling solutions and to execute the strategy in a high quality and sustainable manner.

In Cater Allen we have a unique opportunity to build a competitive intermediary banking business where investment in new technology and teams will complement the outstanding service we already provide.

A client is therefore afforded up to £75,000 cover as a combined amount across his/her Cater Allen accounts and also up to £75,000 as a combined amount across his/her Santander UK plc accounts.

Business Quality and Supervision

This department operates with a dual purpose, to protect and support. Keeping our customers at the forefront of what we do, this department help to ensure that the advice given to customers is correct, but they also act as our first line of support to colleagues in the field from an advice perspective. .

Our Business Quality team performs all the pre and post sale advice checks, monitoring that the customer is receiving the right advice first time and supporting when we don’t get it quite right. Whilst we understand that errors can occur, we aim to support you to get it right first time.

Our Supervision team operate independently to your line manager and will be there to support you with any advice and quality questions that you may have. The teams aim is to support, guide and provide supervision to all our regulated advisers across Financial Planning, Protection and Santander Private.

Regional Manager Supervision – Wealth

Provide effective supervision and leadership of qualified Financial Planning Managers (FPM) / Santander Private Advisers. Work to achieve good customer outcomes, excellent customer experience and adherence to regulatory and internal process requirements, working in partnership with Wealth & colleagues in UKB Operations and Control.

Through supervision of Advisers, the role holder will be responsible for ensuring the identification, assessment, prioritisation, monitoring and control of risks to protect the bank, the adviser and customer to ensure the customer is treated fairly.

The role holder will implement change to support the evolving UK Banking business as a critical component of the First Line of Defence/Business Assurance Model.


The marketing function supports all areas of the business including the Wealth Management Division.

They cover a wide spectrum of responsibilities from sourcing, pricing and managing products for distribution by Wealth Management to maintaining relationships with pretty much every team in the bank and a lot of problem solving.

Transformation and Risk

Transformation Team

The transformation team are instrumental in delivering the systems and processes changes the business requires. They support the business in changing the advice process and supervisory framework for our Santander Private business. The team is made up from a mixture of experienced project managers and colleagues from different parts of the business who are looking for project experience as part of their development.

Risk Management

The Risk Management team ensures the business adheres to Santander’s policies and procedures and provides support for the Risk elements of proposed policy and process change.

Santander Asset Management is a global asset manager with strong local roots across Europe and Latin America and assets under management totalling €180.1 bn as at the end of September 2016. Global Multi Asset Solutions Team

Over the years, our multi asset investment process has won awards for its quality and value. The lead Fund Managers, Tom Caddick and Toby Vaughan, have worked together for over 10 years. Between them, they have over 30 years’ experience in fund management. They lead a team of 24 investment specialists based across a number of countries and can draw on their global expertise and resources.​

UK Equity Income Team

Our UK Equity Income Funds are managed by Graham Ashby who has over 24 years’ experience in fund management. Prior to joining Santander Asset Management in February 2015, he was Head of UK Equities at Ignis Asset Management. Prior to his role at Ignis, Graham held senior equity positions at LV=Asset Management and Credit Suisse Asset Management. He holds a degree in Physics from Nottingham University and is an Associate of the Society of Investment Professionals.
