The University of Birmingham, Brunel University London, the University of Portsmouth, the University of Surrey and Swansea University are competing and the two universities who achieve the highest percentage over their fundraising target will receive the capital costs from Santander for a cycle hire scheme for their campus worth over £100,000.
In January we launched the Challenge and provided 25 universities access to coaching and consultancy support from our partners at nextbike and Crowdfunder to help them design their own Santander Cycles hire scheme. In May we shortlisted the best five schemes and these went through to the final crowdfunding stage of the competition. Now the finalists are competing to raise funds and demonstrate the commitment of their local community to their scheme.
From November 6th until December 8th 2017, the teams have 4 weeks to complete their crowdfunding campaigns to raise funds that will cover the on-going running costs of their scheme. The two universities that raise the highest percentage of funds win and hire schemes will launch in Spring 2018.
