Just like our programmes, our assessment process has been designed to bring out the best in you. It consists of the four steps below, which include some hints and tips to help make sure you're just as impressive in a virtual setting as you would be in person.
What's more, to ensure there's no space for favouritism in our process, even if it's unconscious, the name of your school or university will remain unknown until you start on the programme.
You’ll start the process by completing a simple online application. It should only take you around 10 minutes and you can use the information from your CV to complete it.
After reviewing your application, you’ll be invited to participate in an online test. This includes a video-based situational judgement test, a personality test and a gamified numerical challenge. All designed to make sure we don’t miss the unique skills you’ll bring to the team.
If your online test goes well, you’ll get the chance to really standout with a pre-recorded video interview. By this stage, we know you’ve got potential, so will be looking for focus on why you chose your particular programme, motivation and specific skills. It’s a great opportunity to find out a bit more about each other.
For the final step, you’ll be invited to our Virtual Assessment Centre. The session usually lasts for about half a day and includes three different exercises. There’s a group exercise to help you familiarise yourself with other attendees and a presentation. You will be required to answer questions on your presentation, but don’t worry as you’ll have plenty of time to prepare before the day. The process is completed with a one-to-one interview.
Here’s a couple of videos to help you prepare for the day.

Preparing for assessments
If you emerge successfully from our virtual assessment and accept our job offer, you’ll move into our onboarding process. It’s really all about making you feel at home in your new role. So, you can look forward to joining Facebook Groups, live Q&A sessions, chats with peers and meeting face-to-face with colleagues if it’s safe to do so.
Once onboard, your journey with Santander really begins with a fun and informative induction period we like to call SantanderFest. For an in-depth look at what you can expect during your induction, click below...
WatchYou probably have a few questions, right? Don’t worry, we’ve got that covered. Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions we get asked – on everything from our application process to our programmes themselves.
You’ll also find some useful tips here to help your application to shine.
We get a lot of applications, so it’s not always possible to give feedback at every stage. However, we do aim to give it to everyone who reaches the interview or assessment centre stages.
In certain cases, yes. Please contact our recruitment team to check if it is possible before making an application.
For apprenticeships, you can apply whenever you like. For everything else, you’ll normally need to wait a minimum of six months before re-applying for the same scheme. This is to allow you to build up your skills and experiences.
You can apply for a different role within Santander at any time.
Our current application and assessment process is online. This is to ensure we adhere to the latest government and social distancing guidelines. When we are able, we will look to introduce ‘in person’ assessment.
It gives us the opportunity to see you in action and assess your abilities. Likewise, it gives you the chance to see what we’re like too – whether Santander is the right fit for you.
Our Plan is to hold virtual assessment centres, in the event you attend an in person assessment centre you can expense up to £100
This will depend on what scheme you applied for. When we invite you to the assessment centre, we’ll send you detailed information about what to expect on your day. Please take the time to read through this, so you can prepare and feel confident on the day.
Each scheme has its own requirements. Please check what these are in the description of the specific programme you’re interested in.
Apprenticeships enable you to combine practical training with a qualification. You’ll be employed in a job, so will earn a wage. You’ll also receive benefits and will have a structured development programme with support from experienced colleagues.
We have a range of apprenticeship schemes from level two right through to degree level, ranging in length from 12 months through to over four years.
We offer apprenticeships at various levels from level two through to degree level. Please refer to the job description of the specific apprenticeship you’re interested in.
That’s certainly the intention. Naturally, this will depend on you passing your scheme and performing well. Where that precise role will be will depend on business needs and where we have opportunities at the time.
Unfortunately not. If that happens to you, we invite you to go to our website and explore different career paths within Santander.
Relocation allowances are available in certain cases. We will discuss this with you in more detail at the point of the offer, or you can contact one of our resourcing team about this matter.
If you’re successful in your application, yes. This will be the account we’ll pay your salary into. We’ll help you set up this account when you join.
The simple answer is lots! But they will vary depending on what route you take. For specific benefit details on each scheme, check out the full summary within each programme detail page.
